Blockbuster Deals Make Cross-Border M&A Pop

June 4, 2015

US firms are investing huge sums in acquiring European companies through M&A. Volume climbed to USD 116 bn via 410 deals so far this year, nearly triple the USD 38.9 bn announced via 393 deals in the same period last year, according to dealogic. It is the highest YTD on record. Eighteen large-sized transactions (greater than USD 1 bn) caused the pop. The blockbuster is Monsanto’s USD 44 bn bid for Syngenta AG, the largest US acquisition into EMEA on record. The deal made Switzerland the most targeted nation, followed by the UK. The US is also the most active cross-border buyer in 2015 YTD, followed by the Netherlands and Israel. Global cross-border M&A volume stands at USD 655.1bn in 2015 YTD, up 49% year-on-year and the highest YTD level since 2007 when it was USD 855.4 bn.
