China’s Capital Market Tops This Year

The amount of money raised on equity capital markets worldwide has ballooned to USD 720.9 billion so far this year, the highest level on record, and China is home territory for the largest transaction of the year to date, according to dealogic’s data.


The Top Deal, almost impossible to miss, was Alibaba Group Holding with a USD 25.0bn IPO on the NYSE , making it the world’s largest IPO on record. That size is ahead of the previous record-breaker which was also Chinese, that is, the Agricultural Bank of China ’s USD22.1bn IPO in July 2010.


Capital markets in both Europe and Asia (ex-Japan) are up by 65% and 53%, respectively, while the total value of US transactions fell by 34% compared to last year.
