According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, global investment in clean energy was up 16% in 2014, USD 310 billion, almost as high as the all-time record of USD 317.5bn reached in 2011. The growth exceeded analysts’ expectations.
VC investment was up slightly on the back of several large expansion capital deals in the US, Canada, New Zealand and German. Geographically, China invested the most in clean energy (USD 89.5bn), while Brazil grew the fastest. Solar was the biggest single contributor to the uptick in investment in 2014, a result of the “huge improvements” in its cost-competitiveness over the last five years.
