European PE Exits Boom, Dealflow Declines

by

April 30, 2015

European investors are facing historically high valuations in the buyout market, which caused a divergence between deal flow (down 25% year-over-year) and total capital invested (flat), according to analysis published by PitchBook. Its report on European PE trends also said exit opportunities remain strong for private capital investors. Just over EUR 51 billion of PE and VC capital was exited in the first quarter, a post-2009 record. Combined with the EUR 48.3 billion exited in 4Q 2014, almost EUR 100 billion has been realized over the past two quarters, an “impressive tally” compared to total 2013 numbers, which hit EUR 102.9 billion for the full year.
