Global Healthcare Borrowing Breaks a Record, Again

April 16, 2015

M&A in the Global Healthcare sector is driving up corporate borrowing. Debt capital market volume is at USD 80.1bn via 51 deals so far in 2015, more than double the USD 38.8bn issued via 45 deals in 2014 YTD, and the highest YTD volume on record, says dealogic.  The first quarter saw the highest quarterly volume on record, up 18% on the previous record of USD 65.6bn set in the fourth quarter 2014. The WSJ’s Heard on the Street column calls the healthcare M&A trend an “addiction”.  Healthcare is still a small proportion of all transactions, accounting for 4% of global DCM volume this year, nevertheless it  is the largest YTD market share on record.
