Record for Cross-border M&A in January

Not since January 2006 has there been as as much capital reaching across borders for M&A as there were in last month, according to Thomson Reuters. Money flowed to acquire US and UK businesses, particularly in the financial sectort. The value of transactions in January was USD 75.6 billion, quite close to last year’s USD 75.0 billion level. US companies acquired the most foreign targets with 118 outbound M&A deals worth USD 50.3 billion, accounting for 46% of January’s cross-border M&A total.
