Unrelenting M&A Growth

April 9, 2015

The first quarter of the year saw another gain over previous quarters, with M&A up by 23% compared to the same period last year, according to dealogic. The activity level is not where it was in 2007 but much better than the intervening quarters. Much of the activity was in the US market and there were two mega-mergers worth more than USD 40 billion each. Volume reached USD 888 billion, the highest first quarter since 2007 when transactions rocketed to USD 1.09 trillion via 9,558 deals. Asia had the highest jump in the quarter, up 38% to USD 221 billion. Both the US and Europe were up too (respectively 21% to USD 394 bn and 16% to USD 232.2 bn). Healthcare was the most targeted sector. (Image source: dealogic)
